On-Site Volunteer

Become the Heart of Our Centre: On-Site Volunteer

Are you friendly, reliable, and passionate about your local community? We are looking for On-Site Volunteers to be the welcoming face of Solihull Lodge Community Centre.

In this vital role, you’ll ensure our centre remains a warm, safe, and professional space for everyone who walks through our doors. Whether you’re greeting new hirers or ensuring the hall is sparkling for an event, your support makes a real difference.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • A Warm Welcome: Greeting hirers and visitors, providing site tours, and answering general queries.
  • Centre Operations: Managing the opening and closing routines of the building.
  • Maintaining the Space: Helping with cleaning (hall, kitchen, and toilets) and restocking supplies to keep the centre inviting.
  • Safety First: Carrying out basic fire safety checks and assisting with evacuations if necessary.
  • Optional Admin: If you enjoy office work, there are opportunities to help with light administrative tasks.

Is This Role for You?

We are looking for individuals who are:

  • Approachable & Friendly: You love meeting new people and helping them feel at home.
  • Reliable: You can be counted on to manage the building’s security and timings.
  • Detail-Oriented: You take pride in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Independent: You are happy to work on your own initiative or as part of a small team.

Why Join Us?

No previous experience is necessary as full training is provided. This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to Solihull Lodge, meet your neighbours, and gain valuable experience in venue management.

Volunteer Caretaker

Use Your Trade Skills to Support Your Community!

Are you a retired tradesperson with a “can-do” attitude? Solihull Lodge Community Association is looking for a Caretaker Volunteer with a background in the construction industry to help us keep our centre safe, functional, and welcoming.

While this role covers general upkeep, we are specifically looking for someone with practical skills in plumbing, electrics, and construction to help manage the day-to-day maintenance of our facilities.

The Role

This is a hands-on position that makes a visible impact. You will be a crucial part of the team, ensuring the building is in top shape for our staff, volunteers, and visitors. Your duties will include:

  • Specialist Maintenance: Utilising your knowledge of plumbing, electrics, and general construction for minor repairs and building improvements.
  • Facility Upkeep: Ensuring high standards of cleanliness and safety throughout the hall, kitchen, and communal areas.
  • Operational Support: Managing bin cycles, restocking supplies, and assisting with room setups for our various community groups.
  • Safety & Compliance: Identifying potential maintenance needs proactively and ensuring the premises remain a safe environment for all.

The Ideal Candidate

This role is perfect for someone recently retired from the construction industry who wants to stay active and put their years of expertise to good use. We are looking for:

  • Trade Expertise: Proven experience in plumbing, electrical work, or general building/construction.
  • Physical Agility: The ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Reliability: A dependable and punctual individual committed to the upkeep of the centre.
  • Independence: A proactive person who can identify maintenance issues and address them without constant supervision.

Why Join Us?

By volunteering your skills, you are helping us save on vital repair costs, allowing more funds to go back into community projects. You’ll be a valued member of our team, working in a friendly, supportive environment where your expertise is truly appreciated.

Volunteer Grounds Keeper

Keep Our Community Safe and Welcoming All Year Round!

Are you an outdoors person who takes pride in a job well done? Solihull Lodge Community Centre is looking for a Volunteer Grounds Keeper to help maintain our external spaces. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys staying active and understands that a tidy, well-maintained site is a safe site for everyone.

The Role

As our Grounds Keeper, you will be responsible for the “curb appeal” and safety of the Centre. While gardening and weeding are part of the role, a key focus is ensuring our external areas—especially the car park and walkways—remain hazard-free for our visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Seasonal Safety: Taking the lead on winter safety by gritting the car park and pathways before bookings begin and helping to clear snow during a cold snap.
  • Site Tidiness: Regularly sweeping up leaves and clearing debris to prevent slip hazards and keep the site looking professional.
  • Garden Maintenance: Weeding flower beds, pruning shrubs, and ensuring our green spaces stay vibrant.
  • General Upkeep: Litter picking and ensuring all external entrances are clear and inviting for our hirers.

Is This Role for You?

We are looking for a dependable volunteer who:

  • Is an Early Bird: Willing to help with gritting or clearing paths on frosty mornings before the Centre opens.
  • Enjoys Physical Work: Comfortable with manual tasks such as sweeping, shoveling, and light lifting.
  • Is Safety-Conscious: Has a keen eye for potential hazards (like wet leaves or icy patches) and takes proactive steps to fix them.
  • Loves the Outdoors: Happy to work outside in various weather conditions to keep the Centre running smoothly.

Why Join Us?

Our Grounds Keeper is a vital part of the team. By keeping our site safe and tidy, you are ensuring that elderly visitors, children, and all members of our community can use the Centre without worry. It’s a great way to stay active, spend time outdoors, and make a tangible difference to Solihull Lodge.

Volunteer Community Liaison Manager

Be the Voice of Our Community: Community Liaison Manager (Volunteer)

Are you a “people person” with a passion for bringing folks together? We are looking for an enthusiastic Community Liaison Manager to act as the friendly bridge between Solihull Lodge Community Centre and the vibrant community we serve.

In this vital role, you will be the face of the Centre, building strong relationships with local residents, businesses, and community groups to ensure our hub remains a welcoming, inclusive, and busy space for everyone.

  • Community Outreach: Leading efforts to increase awareness of the Centre and driving participation in our activities and events.
  • Event Coordination: Helping to organize and manage community events that foster spirit and connection.
  • Feedback & Growth: Gathering feedback from residents to help us shape future services and ensure we are meeting the community’s true needs.
  • Promotion: Using social media and local marketing to tell the story of the Centre and promote our latest news.

  • Loves to Network: You are approachable, enthusiastic, and comfortable talking to anyone.
  • Is a Skilled Coordinator: You have experience (or a strong interest) in managing events and projects from start to finish.
  • Is a Strategic Thinker: You can identify new opportunities for partnerships and community growth.
  • Is Digitally Savvy: You are comfortable using social media and marketing tools to spread the word.
  • Is Truly Community-Minded: You are passionate about making a positive local impact.

This is a pivotal role that ensures Solihull Lodge Community Centre remains a bustling, financially sustainable, and well-loved hub for the entire community.

From coordinating a local yoga class to managing a private celebration, you will be the key person ensuring every hirer has a seamless and professional experience.

How You’ll Make a Difference

  • Managing Bookings: Overseeing all enquiries and maintaining our booking system (Hallmaster) to ensure our spaces are used to their full potential.
  • Customer Excellence: Serving as the main point of contact for hirers, providing a friendly and supportive experience from initial enquiry to the day of the event.
  • Venue Oversight: Ensuring the venue is prepared, welcoming, and well-maintained for every user.
  • Growth & Promotion: Identifying opportunities to attract new hirers and local groups to help the Centre thrive.
  • Financial Admin: Handling basic invoicing and reporting to ensure the Centre’s bookings remain on track.

Why Join Us?

This is a high-impact role that directly supports the financial health and vibrancy of the Centre. You will gain valuable experience in venue management and event coordination while playing a vital part in keeping our community connected.

Full training on our Hallmaster system and internal processes will be provided.
